CHRISTMAS TREES BETTER AS MULCH THAN LANDFILL.(LIFE & LEISURE)

It's hard to imagine your Christmas tree that symbol of eternal life carved into a duck decoy, or more likely, shredded into mulch and tucked around your spring daffodils, but such is the case.

Environmentalists, tree growers and municipalities use the post-Christmas lull to make this perennial point: Christmas trees can be recycled.

``It's never a surprise; it's the same time every year. With a tiny bit of forethought, communities can save a lot of money by keeping Christmas trees out of landfills and incinerators,'' said Judith Enck, senior environmental associate for New York Public Interest Research Group. …
